Will Ricky Saints become the new North American Champion?
It hasn’t been a full month and the former AEW star is making waves on the developmental brand. Ricky Saints promised to shake things up when he shocked the world with his appearance on NXT. That can come to fruition tonight as Saints will challenge Shawn Spears for the NXT North American Championship.
These two have quite the storied history. While Spears and the former Starks didn’t necessarily feud in AEW, both men have crosspaths at certain times in their AEW careers. However, everything has changed since Saints and Spears left the competition. Spears is finally a champion, topping Tony D’Angelo for the belt last month.
The 44-year-old formed a dangerous faction to do so. While Spears didn’t win the title clean, he has a strong unit supporting him whereas Saints is standing alone in his NXT North American title match. Can Ricky Saints overcome the odds and beat Shawn Spears? Or will the NXT North American Champion prove that the numbers will always win?
Speaking of titles, Trick Williams is coming after the NXT Championship. Him and Je’Von Evans have been singling out Oba Femi in the past couple of weeks, but the former NXT Champion took it one step further by eliminating the competition last week. Interestingly enough, Williams came out during the same time as Dark State, the faction that’s been running roughshod throughout the NXT locker room. What will happen tonight when Trick Williams calls out the NXT Champion?
Last week, Stephanie Vaquer successfully defended both the NXT Women’s North American and NXT Women’s Championships. But the double champion still has a massive target on her back. The state of the women’s division will be addressed tonight, as Ava will determine the next pair of challengers for Stephanie’s belts. Jordynne Grace seems like a frontrunner, but there’s plenty of woman who want a crack at Vaquer’s titles.
Below is the advertised line-up for tonight's show:
