It’s been four years since The Time Splitters were together.
Since their last match-up in New Japan Pro Wrestling, Shelley has taken some time away from the sport to focus on life outside of the squared circle. The former X-Division Champion shocked the world when he made his return to ROH last summer, and while the 36-year-old didn’t achieve his dream of becoming the ROH World Champion at the Summer Supercard, Shelley’s passion for professional wrestling reignited.
For Kushida, the multi-time IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion felt that he done all that he could do in New Japan Pro Wrestling, thus he decided to sign with the black and yellow brand.
The NXT star has been making a big impact in the developmental brand since his debut last year; however, when it was revealed that the former IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Champions would reunite for the Dusty Rhodes Classic Tag Team tournament, both men wanted to showcase why they were considered one of the best tag teams in the world during their lengthy stint.
Unfortunately, The Time Splitters lost to former NXT UK Tag Team Champions The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake); however, the duo’s journey to their debut in Full Sail University has surely been unforgettable. Check out the brief documentary on Kushida and Alex Shelley regarding their reunion in the Dusty Rhodes Classic Tag Team tournament:
