Cody Rhodes Returns To NXT To Make A Big Announcement...And For A Surprise AEW Reunion!

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes made his way to NXT yesterday to reveal how Trick Williams' next NXT Championship challenger will be decided and had an unexpected reunion with fellow former AEW stars.

As promised, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes returned to NXT last night just days before he defends his title against AJ Styles at Clash at the Castle in Glasgow, Scotland.

The American Nightmare started by referencing that match, running down the fact The Phenomenal One has been the IWGP Heavyweight Champion, NWA World Heavyweight Champion, and WWE Champion. Despite that, he still vowed to make Styles say, "I quit."

NXT Champion Trick Williams then made his way to the ring and drew parallels between himself and Rhodes.

They talked about the pressure that comes with being champion and Rhodes then announced that next week's NXT will feature a  25-man battle royal to determine a new #1 contender for Williams' title. He said the champ will know some of them, but hinted that others will be from different locker rooms.

That's bound to send speculation into overdrive!

Elsewhere on the show, Rhodes crossed paths with Jacy Jayne backstage and presented her with his "Grotesque" Cody Rhodes face mask to protect her broken nose.

Perhaps the night's biggest talking point came when Cody ran into former AEW star Shawn Spears (who earned his "Chairman" moniker by busting Rhodes open with a steel chair). "All Ego" Ethan Page and Lexis King also rolled up, leading to a moment with the four former AEW stars standing side-by-side on a WWE show.

God, that AEW reunion spot is so cringe. What a bunch of corny bullshit. Also, they're calling Brian Pillman Jr "LEXIS KING?!"
