Damien Priest and Santos Escobar managed to hold on to their respective North American and Cruiserweight championships during last night's NXT TakeOver 31 event despite impressive showings from their opponents, Johnny Gargano and Isaiah "Swerve" Scott.
Priest and Gargano opened the show, and Johnny Wrestling actually dominated the early goings by keeping his much larger opponent off his feet with a series of strikes and high-speed attacks. In the end, though, the Archer of Infamy proved to be too much to handle, hitting his Reckoning finisher to pick up the win and retain the NA Championship.
We thought if any title was going to change hands it'd be the Cruiserweight Championship, but it wasn't to be. Scott came very close, but the ever resourceful Escobar was ultimately able to weather the storm of offense and score a pinfall victory with what appeared to be a new underhook face-buster finisher.
KUSHIDA also defeated Velveteen Dream by submission after synching in his Hoverboard Lock. He continued the attack after the match, suggesting a full on heel turn. Isn't Dream also a heel? Ummm... anyway, pretty good matches all 'round here.
