Is Shawn Michaels coming out of retirement?
It’s not uncommon for Shawn Michaels to get involved with storylines. It was no different last night on NXT where there was a controversial double pin. After some back-and-forth between officials, it was determined that Trick Williams was still the NXT Champion.
As you can imagine, Eddy Thorpe was not happy about that. He took his frustrations out on Ava and then Shawn Michaels tried to intervene. Thorpe didn’t want to hear it from the WWE Hall of Famer so he pushed Michaels for good measure. Michaels didn’t fight back, as Trick Williams took care of Eddy Thorpe before he goes to the back.
We’ve seen Michaels get confrontational with past NXT stars. When asked about a possible return last year, the 59-year-old makes it clear that he has no interest in stepping into the ring:
"No, I absolutely do not think about that at all anymore," Michaels told SportsKeeda when asked about a potential in-ring return. "I'm so enamored and enjoy helping these young men and women come through NXT. I've had my time in the sun and I enjoyed every bit of it, but I so thoroughly enjoy being able to help them and allow them to have the same opportunities that I had. I was very happy to be able to work with Finn Balor in his second run in NXT because I certainly missed out on his first time. I have a great deal of admiration and respect for Finn and everything he's brought to NXT.
Now, this is about the generation of Bronn Breakker, Julius and Brutus Creed, Tiffany Stratton. We have a number of young men and women who have come through NXT that are going to be huge superstars on the main roster. I don't think anybody is going to be surprised if they see Bronn Breakker and Carmelo Hayes headlining a WrestleMania in the very near future. That's what I'm obviously focused on. We look forward to bringing the Great American Bash to Texas and putting together a great card, and me doing everything I can to help them out and bring them success in the future."
While an in-ring return is off the table for Michaels, the title picture for NXT has just gotten more interesting. Oba Femi is currently the number one contender thanks to winning the iron survivor match, but there’s no way that they can let Trick slide since this was a double pin. Is a Triple Threat possible for New Year’s Evil? We’ll find out what happens soon!
