Well, Drake Maverick didn't realize his dream by becoming the Interim Cruiserweight Champion, but he is staying in the black and gold brand.

Drake did battle with El Hijo del Fantasma in the finals of the Interim Cruiserweight Championship Tournament in the main event of NXT this week, and we were treated to a very impressive, edge-of-the-seat match. Maverick refused to quit despite a sound beating from the skilled luchador, eventually gaining the upper hand.

However, a distraction from those mysterious masked men who've been attempting to abduct various Superstars over the past few weeks ultimately cost him. Drake took them out with a suicide dive, but when he got back in the ring his opponent was waiting with a superkick/Fantasma Driver combo to pick up the win.

A dejected and clearly emotional Maverick made his way back up the ramp, where he was met by Triple H with an NXT contract in his hand.

The former 205 Live General Manager was actually released by WWE along with several other Superstars and employees as part of a company-wide purge a couple of months ago, but that was later worked into this storyline, and Maverick evidently signed a new contract at some point.
