You come at The Prince, you best not miss - but Johnny Gargano did just that at NXT TakeOver: Portland.
This was a dream match of sorts as classic NXT met the new era of the black and gold brand in what promised to be a war of attrition, and after a terrific showing from both men, Finn Balor emerged victorious.
The bout started off with both Superstars displaying their mat skills, but it soon broke down in a far more brutal affair. Johnny Wrestling seemed to have the match won when he locked Balor in the Gargano Escape, but the ever-resilient Irishman was able to roll to the outside and set up his opponent for a John Woo Dropkick across the announces desks into the barricade.
After that, it was academic. Balor rolled Gargano into the ring, and hit a Coup de Gras/1916 combo for a decisive pinfall win.
Finn Balor has now cemented his legacy and established himself as the top heel in NXT. Don't be surprised if he issues a challenge to whoever holds the NXT Championship next week.
