Hideo Itami was all-but confirmed as the new number #1 contender when he interrupted Bobby Roode's promo a few weeks ago on NXT - but a recent push for Roderick Strong led many to believe that we might be looking at a surprise win during tonight's main event. However, that wasn't to be, and Itami managed to pin Strong after an impressive bout to become the undisputed #1 contender.

Itami has been plagued by injuries since debuting in NXT and this is his first shot at the title. Though nobody really expects him to win, we should be in for a great Takeover: Chicago ME one way or the other.

Strong will almost certainly be in line for another a shot himself at some point, but for the time being he's going to have his hands full with SAnitY, who ambushed him as NXT went off the air tonight.
