Io Shirai Defeats Tegan Nox To Retain The NXT Women's Title Before Being Taken Out By Dakota Kai

Tegan Nox received her NXT Women's Championship opportunity this week, but, as expected, Io Shirai managed to retain her title after an exciting back-and-forth match... before being attacked by Dakota Kai.

Tegan Nox recently won a Fatal 4-Way elimination match to earn a shot at Io Shirai's NXT Women's Championship, and The Welsh Wonder received her opportunity last night in the main event.

Nox took the fight to The Genius of the Sky, and managed to ground her high-flying opponent with her technical skills. But Shirai is no slouch when it comes to grappling herself, and Tegan was not able to keep her down for long.

In the end, Nox narrowly missed her Shiniest Wizard, allowing Io to land a stiff uppercut strike and climb to the turnbuckle and hit her signature moonsalt (well, she came close this time?) to pick up the win and retain the gold.

After the match, Shirai made her way back up the ramp, but as she turned to pose with her title she was blindsided by a kick from Dakota Kai. It looks like the devious Kiwi is being lined up as the next challenger for the NXT Women's Championship, but something tells us Miss Nox won't be giving up just yet.
