Io Shirai Retains The NXT Women's Title At HALLOWEEN HAVOC In A Brutal Tables, Ladders & Scares Match

Everyone assumed Candice LeRae would win this one after Johnny Gargano took the NA title from Damien Priest, but it wasn't to be. Io Shirai managed to retain the NXT Women's Champion at Halloween Havoc.

Well, Johnny Gargano fulfilled his part of the bargain by winning the North American Championship from Damien Priest earlier in the night, but Candice LeRae was unable to follow suit in the main event of Halloween Havoc.

The Poison Pixie and Io Shirai - who was played to the ring by the ever awesome Poppy - ended up having a Tables, Ladders and Scares (we assume you need no explanation) match, and it was a pretty brutal affair. Both women traded stiff shots with the weapons available to them and took some nasty bumps.

LeRa did come close to victory when the mysterious masked figure (we assume it's Indie Hartwell?) that helped Gargano win the title got involved and pushed her up the ladder, but The Genius of the Sky had some backup of her own.

Host Shotzi Blackheart decided to even the odds, preventing Candice from getting her hands on the title. With "Ghostface" neutralized, Io was able to climb the ladder and retrieve the gold.

The Garganos holding both championships might have been entertaining for about five minutes, but we're glad Shirai retained here.

What did you guys think of this match and Halloween Havoc overall? Let us know in the comments.
