Johnny Gargano Vs. Damien Priest For The United States Championship Added To NXT TAKEOVER

We have no idea what Johnny Gargano did to deserve a title shot, but it's now been announced that the NXT cornerstone will face Damien Priest for the United States Championship at the next TakeOver event.

Remember when NXT would focus on developing strong, compelling feuds and taking time to build legitimate title contenders? Yeah.

General Manager William Regal has announced that Johnny Gargano will face Damien Priest for the United States Championship at the upcoming TakeOver event.

Look, Gargano is awesome (he hasn't really worked as a heel, however), but this just feels like making a title match for the sake of it. Johnny and Priest have barely even interacted much recently, and those cringey "At Home with The Garganos" segments have been the lowlights of the black and gold brand for weeks.

We're used to Raw and SmackDown putting PPV matches together on a whim and not being too concerned about repetition, but we really hope NXT doesn't begin to follow suit.

On the plus side, these guys shoukd have a great match! The next TakeOver PPV event is set for October 4, but no location has been announced (it'll be Full Sail).
