After 19 years on the independent circuit, Mercedes Martinez has finally made it to the WWE.

Last night, Martinez fought NXT regular Kacy Catanzaro and the newcomer got the victory thanks to the aggression she’s known for inside of the ring. Following her big win, Martinez spoke about her match against Catanzaro and states that she was only hired because of her stint on American Ninja Warrior:

The wrestler is no stranger to gracing the promotion’s squared circle, as fans first took notice of the former Shimmer Champion during the inaugural Mae Young Classic in 2017. Martinez would go on to the finals before losing to former NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler; however, her run throughout the competition was strong enough to warrant a call back to the 2018 tournament.

Unfortunately, the 39-year-old would end up losing to Meiko Satomura in the quarterfinals. However, Martinez would continue wrestling until the company finally signed the veteran this year. The talented NXT star is without a doubt a strong addition to an already impressive roster.
