Imperium won't defend their NXT tag team championships this Saturday at TakeOver: XXX, but three teams will compete for the opportunity to challenge Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel for the gold at a later date.

During last night's go-home episode of NXT, it was announced that Breezango, Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan and Legado del Fantasma’s Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza will battle in a Triple Threat Tag Team Match during the TakeOver Pre-Show for the chance to become the new No. 1 contenders.

Tyler Breeze & Fandango teamed up with Isaiah "Swerve" Scott to face Wilde, Mendoza and Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar last night, but came up short when Breeze was pinned - yet again - by the latter's Fantasma Driver. This may bode well for the veteran team scoring a victory this Saturday, although the powers that be may decide to add more gold to the recently formed Legado del Fantasma stable.

Of course, whoever wins still has to get past Imperium!

How do you guys see this bout playing out? Drop us a comment in the usual place.
