NXT TAKEOVER: CHICAGO Women's Championship Match Is Now A Triple Threat As Ember Moon Suffers Injury
Despite being the favorite to finally take the title away from Asuka, Ember Moon has been forced to drop out of the NXT Takeover: Chicago fatal four-way Women's Championship match on May 20th...
If you watched the 15-woman battle royale that took place this week on NXT, you might have noticed Ember Moon taking a nasty spill out of the ring when Asuka sent her crashing towards the ring post. Many people assumed Moon might be legitimately injured after the fall, and unfortunately, they were right.
WWE has now officially confirmed that Ember suffered a shoulder sprain, and will be out of action for 4-5 weeks:
Moon suffered a grade one shoulder sprain as a result of Asuka’s ambush during last week’s No. 1 Contender’s Battle Royal and will not be able to compete at NXT TakeOver: Chicago on May 20, WWE.com has learned. Doctors estimate that Moon will require four to five weeks to recover from the injury.
Because Asuka is expected to make her main roster debut soon, Moon was the hot favorite to win the title at Takeover, but obviously that's not going to happen now.
Will the powers that be put the strap on Nikki Cross or Ruby Riot instead? We'll have to wait until May 20th to find out, but I'd say it's highly unlikely. Expect Asuka to retain, setting up another one-on-one match with Ember Moon at a later date.
