Could we get AJ Styles vs. Trick Williams?
The current TNA World Champion is having one of the biggest runs of his career. Williams shocked the world when he became the first contracted WWE star to win a TNA belt at WWE Battleground. Thus far, Trick has successfully defended the belt against Elijah, Mike Santana, and Josh Briggs. He’ll defend it the fourth time at Slammiversary in a triple threat match against Santana and Joe Hendry.
Despite having the title for less than 75 days, the NXT star already thinks that he’s the best TNA World Champion in the company’s history.
“Man, honestly, man, you know, I went out there on Tuesday and I made a bold statement and I meant what I said. I said that I am the greatest Trick-N-TNA champion of all time.” he said during an interview with WhatCulture Wrestling. “And we were in Atlanta—I’m still in Atlanta—and the crowd chanted AJ Styles. The audacity. AJ Styles.”
Speaking of AJ Styles, Trick was asked which past TNA World Champion that he would like to face and he picked the TNA original.
“But you know, I thought about it. Wow. Wouldn’t that be amazing? You know what I mean? Since the word around town is Trick Williams does not respect this title, which I am defending on two different shows, which I am increasing this viewership, which I am doing exactly what I’m supposed to do, which I rightfully claim that I am the best TNA champion of all time. If anybody who they perceive to be someone who actually does honor and respect TNA, it’s probably AJ Styles. So, why don’t we book that? I mean, I think that’s the most opponent for someone like myself.”
We could end up seeing AJ Styes vs. Trick Williams one day. Who knows, maybe it will be for the TNA World title. The former WWE Champion has stated in the past that he wouldn’t mind having a one off match in TNA.
“I love [the WWE and TNA partnership]. I still have a couple of friends there, and I would love to have the opportunity to go back and wrestle at least one more match in TNA,” AJ Styles said on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet.
Of course, given that Trick is a WWE talent, it’s likely that he’ll face the former TNA World Champion under the same roof. It would be cool to see AJ Styles have one more match in TNA and given the WWE partnership, there’s a possibility that could happen.
