Eddy Thorpe gets another crack at the NXT Championship.
Oba Femi had to go through 25 minutes of hell just to get his opportunity at the NXT Championship. Eddy Thorpe? All he had to do was fake a backstage attack. Thorpe and Trick Williams had a back and forth match that was pretty even from beginning to end.
However, Thorpe accidentally took out the referee and got a visual pinfall over Trick Williams. The bump would come back in play later as Trick hit his finisher on Thorpe and fainted on top of the NXT star. A second referee came down to count the pin for Trick. The first referee came back in to count the pin for Eddy. As you can imagine, it was pure chaos over who rightfully won the NXT Championship.
Trick Williams was declared the winner, but Eddy Thorpe was not going to let that slide. He came out and said that Trick should be disappointed in the way he retained his title. The NXT Champion decided to up the ante on January 7th as he added Eddy Thorpe to his title match at New Year’s Evil.
That makes the second official match for the NXT special. The other bout is a rematch between Roxanne Perez and Giulia. The NXT Women’s Champion originally beat Giulia on the CW premiere, but that was thanks to Cora Jade. Like Oba Femi, Giulia had to go through the grueling 25-minute Iron Survivor match in order to get a second chance at Perez.
New Year’s Evil is shaping up to be a strong card for NXT. It also seems like it’ll be a newsworthy one given that numerous titles are scheduled to be defended on this show. There’s no word on whether any titles will change hands so it could easily be another successful defense for every respective champion. Nevertheless, there’s only one more show to go before New Year’s Evil. We’ll keep you updated when WWE adds more matches to the line-up.
