WWE's NXT No Mercy event took place this past weekend, with NXT Women's Champion Jacy Jayne retaining her title after a mysterious masked attacker took out Lola Vice.
Heading into tonight's episode of NXT, we still don't know who that person was. However, the WWE.com recap of the match has let the cat out of the bag! In the piece, Lainey Reid is named as the person under the hood, though it's since been edited and she's no longer mentioned.
"Jacy Jayne retained the NXT Women’s Championship thanks to a shocking assist from Lainey Reid," the piece originally stated before it was edited to say, "Jayne is still the NXT Women’s Champion, but not without some controversy."
This is an intriguing new alliance in NXT, and heading into No Mercy, the story was that Reid, who was originally scheduled to challenge Sol Ruca for the WWE Speed Women's Championship, was sidelined due to an "injury." She was later shown in a walking boot and was confronted backstage by Vice.
Jayne leads the Fatal Influence faction, and she and Fallon Henley recently kicked out their third member, Jazmyn Nyx. She's since decided to leave WWE, suggesting Reid is set to take her place.
"I feel like it was validation, because I feel like I’ve always known I was capable of more than just being a tag team wrestler," Jayne said of her NXT Women's Championship win earlier this year. "It was just waiting for the right opportunity to show the world that. I feel like I have been in so many factions."
"I kind of just hopped around for a while so you never really saw that other side of me," she added. "But now I feel it is my chance to show the world that what you thought of me is not what I am and I am just getting started and I have so much more to show everybody."
