The latest edition of WWE NXT for August 5, 2020 took place from the NXT Arena at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida, Florida.

Here is a recap of the most noteworthy highlights from this episode for those who might have missed it:

— No. 1 Contender's Match: Dakota Kai defeated Rhea Ripley by pinfall (with some help from Mercedes Martinez) to earn a title opportunity against Io Shirai at TakeOver XXX. Later, Robert Stone clarified to McKenzie Mitchell that they interfered in this match because while Ripley may be done with them, they're not done with her.

— Bronson Reed defeated Shane Thorne by pinfall.

— Legado del Fantasma attacked Breezango and abducted Fandango, leaving Tyler Breeze chasing after them. Later, Santos Escobar, Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde brought Fandango to the ring, spoke about how lucha libre is an art form and continued to wail on him, as well as Tyler Breeze, who came out to try to help his tag team partner. Escobar also gave a warning to Isaiah "Swerve" Scott to keep his name out of his mouth.

— Damian Priest defeated Oney Lorcan and Ridge Holland by pinfall (on Lorcan) in a triple threat qualifying match to earn a spot in the Fatal 5-Way ladder match at NXT TakeOver XXX for the vacated NXT North American Championship.

— Keith Lee defeated Cameron Grimes by pinfall. Karrion Kross appeared on the TitanTron to show that he had attacked people backstage and will continue to do so until Lee gives him a title match.

— Dexter Lumis was taken out of the ladder match due to an injury that will prevent him from being medically cleared. To fill the final two spots, there will be two singles matches featuring the four men who weren't pinned or made to tap out in their previous qualifying matches (ie, Johnny Gargano, Finn Balor, Ridge Holland and another).

— Tegan Nox defeated Indi Hartwell by pinfall.

— NXT Tag Team Championship Match: Imperium (Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner) defeated The Undisputed ERA (Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly) by pinfall to retain the titles due to a distraction ringside of Adam Cole fighting with Pat McAfee, which ended with McAfee punting Cole and being taken out of Full Sail University.
