Conor McGregor has inked a new six-fight deal with the UFC, president Dana White confirmed. While exact figures were not revealed, White said the deal could make McGregor the richest in the sport.
McGregor is one of the most electrifying fighters in UFC and his popularity has led to record-breaking pay-per-view numbers. White revealed that UFC 229, where McGregor will finally fight Nurmagomedov for the world lightweight championship at the main event, was trending towards 2.5 million buys. The current record is 1.6 million buys for UFC 202, where McGregor fought Nate Diaz in a rematch.
"It's not hard to do a deal with Conor McGregor because we know what he's worth," White told ESPN.
The six-fight deal includes his matchup with Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 on October 6, which will mark the fighter's return to the Octagon after nearly two years. His last fight was a TKO win against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November 2016, which earned him the UFC lightweight belt. However, McGregor was stripped of his championship belt following UFC 223 due to inactivity, and Nurmagomedov became the new champion with a win over Al Iaquinta on April 8.
Now, after years of anticipation, the two longtime rivals will meet in the Octagon for the first time next month.
