Well, that didn't last long. Conor McGregor, who announced his retirement from professional mixed martial arts about one week ago, is already teasing his return to the Octagon.

McGregor hasn't actually fought in the UFC since losing to current lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in October 2018. Both him and Khabib were suspended due to a post-fight melee, and since then McGregor has been focused on his out-of-the-cage business endeavors. He's also had his share of legal issues.

However, just weeks before he was eligible to return, McGregor announced his abrupt retirement from the sport; although, no one actually believed him. Turns out they were right to be skeptical.

McGregor has had an eventful week on social media, engaging in some low-brow trash-talking with Khabib Nurmagomedov that culminated in McGregor posting a racist insult towards Khabib's wife and religion. He was quick to delete the tweet and the following backlash posted a response, although he didn't actually apologize. In the tweet, McGregor alluded to his return to the UFC by ending with, "Now see you in the Octagon."

McGregor has openly challenged quite a few fighters on social media, but he seems to have his sights set on a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov first. During their Twitter squabble, McGregor referred to Khabib as a "scurrying rat" and told him not to be scared of a rematch.

There's no doubt a rematch between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov would sell like hotcakes, but the question is whether or not McGregor actually deserves an immediate rematch with the champion. Their first fight was extremely one-sided, with Khabib submitting McGregor in the fourth round to claim the lightweight belt.
