According to "multiple sources" of MMA Fighting, Weili Zhang and Joanna Jedrzejczyk have reached a verbal agreement to fight for the UFC women's strawweight title on March 7 at UFC 248.

It will be current champion Weili Zhang's first title defense, since she won the belt in stunning fashion by knocking out Jessica Andrade in 42 seconds back in August.

Her opponent, former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk, is the longest reigning women's strawweight champion, holding the title from March 2015 to November 2017. In that span, she defended her belt a record five times with wins over Jessica Andrade, Claudia Gadelha and Karolina Kowalkiewicz.

After losing the belt to Rose Namajunas, and then losing the rematch, she moved up to fight for the vacant UFC women's flyweight championship. She lost to Valentina Shevchenko.

Jedrzejczyk returned to the strawweight division in October and defeated Michelle Waterson by unanimous decision.

Contracts for the UFC 248 title fight between Weili Zhang and Joanna Jedrzejczyk have not yet been signed, but the UFC is reportedly working to make it official.
