AJ Styles Won The WWE United States Championship At A Live Event Last Night
AJ Styles became the #1 contender for Kevin Owens' United States Championship on SmackDown Live this week but in a shocking turn of events, he managed to win the title at a non-televised house show in New York!
AJ Styles in the new WWE United States Champion! The Phenomenal One beat Kevin Owens in Madison Square Garden at a WWE Live event to nab the title and he won the belt cleanly after hitting the so-called New Face of America with a Phenomenal Forearm which put Owens down for the 1-2-3.
This is Styles' second singles title in WWE after he previously defeated Dean Ambrose for the WWE World Championship. The repercussions of this win remain to be seen but WWE says that this "leaves the status of his WWE Battleground showdown up in the air," and further adds "What does this shocking turn of events mean for his and Owens’ future?"
It's an interesting question and one which will be addressed on SmackDown Live this Tuesday.
Styles being given the title adds some prestige to it and should help shake things up a little as Owens has held it for quite some time. Throw in the fact that Styles - the best wrestler in the world - deserves to have a championship around his waist and it's fair to say that this is a very exciting change!
