Preview & Predictions for WWE SmackDown:
On tap for tonight's episode, Paige battles Nikki Bella in a rematch as their ongoing rivalry continues. Former tag team partners Damian Priest and R-Truth will also go one-on-one following their recent backstage confrontation.
Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton are scheduled to come face-to-face after Orton interfered in Rhodes' Money in the Bank qualifying match and cost him an opportunity to enter the Men's Money in the Bank Ladder Match. With Rhodes demanding a confrontation, tensions between the former allies continue to escalate.
Damian Priest can't have turned on R-Truth and beaten him up, as well as other people, for the past few weeks, just to lose to him unless there is one possible scenario: R-Truth catches him on some kind of fluke roll-up or Priest gets himself disqualified, so R-Truth does technically win, but gets immediately beaten up afterward out of anger by Priest so that it LOOKS like he came out of it the stronger of the two.
Paige and Nikki Bella is even more straightforward. Bella keeps hovering around Chelsea Green for a future shot at the WWE Women's Championship. Assuming that isn't something WWE just plans on dropping any time soon, Bella scores the win over Paige to set herself up for a title opportunity and likely faces someone like Tiffany Stratton the following week or so.
Of course, a face to face confrontation between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton can only end in them brawling unless SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis once again has them on a no-contact order, in which case, they cut their promos about how they're going to take the other person out at whatever show is announced that they will be fighting at. I'd assume Crown Jewel, but it could be on a future episode of SmackDown as well.
Here are your results for WWE SmackDown - October 16, 2026:
- Undisputed WWE Champion Sami Zayn began the show by addressing Money in the Bank and the failure of several wrestlers who had been targeting his championship to capture the briefcase. Penta was the exception, but Zayn encouraged him to pursue Roman Reigns instead. Zayn also confirmed that he would appear on Raw to speak to Reigns before their champion vs champion match at Crown Jewel. United States Champion Trick Williams confronted Zayn over their previous disagreement, accusing him of being unable to accept Trick's success. Zayn questioned Williams' ability to handle the pressure of being at the top of WWE. Johnny Gargano joined the argument and defended Zayn, leading Williams to challenge Gargano to a match.
- Trick Williams defeated Johnny Gargano by pinfall after connecting with the Trick Shot and Book End. Gargano focused his offense on Williams' knee and received assistance from Candice LeRae at ringside. Sami Zayn watched the contest from the commentary desk, where Williams directed his attention following the decision.
- SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis made a Street Fight between Giulia and Blake Monroe official for October 23. Chelsea Green then confronted Aldis about the involvement of Roxanne Perez and Liv Morgan in her WWE Women's Championship situation. Nikki Bella joined the conversation and complained about Perez receiving a championship opportunity ahead of her. Green accepted Nikki's request for a title match, although the two agreed to hold it on October 30 because Bella was unavailable the following week.
- WWE aired a preview of the advertised confrontation between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton.
- Paige defeated Nikki Bella by pinfall, using her foot on the ropes for additional leverage during a folding press. Paige survived Bella's STF and failed to put her away with an Attitude Adjustment before reversing a pinning attempt to secure the three-count illegally.
- R-Truth discussed his falling out with Damian Priest during an interview conducted by Cathy Kelley. Truth described his disappointment with Priest's actions and used references to The Golden Girls to explain how he viewed their former friendship. He said he intended to make Priest pay for turning against him.
- Kevin Owens was undergoing a medical examination when Nick Aldis came to check on him. Owens acknowledged his condition following Money in the Bank but took satisfaction in CM Punk also failing to win the ladder match. Punk entered the room demanding a fight with Owens. Aldis said he would book an official match between them when both were medically cleared, rather than allow another unsanctioned confrontation.
- Damian Priest defeated R-Truth by referee stoppage after Truth was unable to continue following a missile dropkick. Truth initiated the fight before the match officially started, but Priest eventually gained the advantage. The referee checked on Truth after the dropkick and ended the contest. Priest retrieved a steel chair afterward, but Axiom and Nathan Frazer intervened before he could use it, causing him to leave the ring.
- Gunther went to Nick Aldis' office to defend his attack on Danhausen and criticize Finn Balor's involvement last week. He discovered that Danhausen, not Aldis, was behind the desk. Danhausen was wearing a neck brace and sling and pointed out that Gunther had never officially pinned him. After Danhausen mentioned that he would not be cleared before Halloween, Gunther warned him about what might happen on that occasion. No match was officially confirmed.
- Alexa Bliss praised Charlotte Flair for stepping aside so that Tatum Paxley could replace her in last week's WWE Women's Tag Team Championship match. Paxley thanked Flair for the opportunity and told Bliss that she had a special gift planned for Charlotte's return. Fatal Influence interrupted the champions, with Jacy Jayne complaining about Tiffany Stratton taking the Money in the Bank briefcase and the group questioning whether Flair was genuinely happy for her former partner. Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid attacked Bliss and Paxley, but the champions cleared them from the ring and also knocked down Jayne.
- Sami Zayn approached Rey Fenix during an interview with Cathy Kelley and began asking questions about Penta's Money in the Bank victory. Zayn wanted to know whether Fenix had spoken to his brother about a potential cash-in, repeatedly suggesting that Roman Reigns would be a suitable opponent. Fenix declined to speculate about Penta's intentions and said he had no information to offer.
- Jade Cargill, B-Fab and Michin encountered Fatal Influence backstage, resulting in an argument about the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship. Fatal Influence questioned who should receive the next title opportunity, but B-Fab and Michin informed them that they had already been granted a championship match against Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley.
- AAA Cruiserweight Championship Match: Rey Fenix (c) defeated Ricky Saints by disqualification to retain the title. Saints had trouble finishing off the champion despite several near falls. When Fenix climbed the turnbuckles, Saints shoved Charles Robinson against the ropes to disrupt his balance and followed with Rochambeau. Robinson refused to count the subsequent pinfall, leading to an argument in which Saints made physical contact with the official. Robinson disqualified Saints, who then attacked Fenix and hit another Rochambeau after the match.
- Nick Aldis was unable to confirm Randy Orton's whereabouts when Cody Rhodes approached him backstage. Rhodes said he would proceed with the scheduled confrontation despite Orton not being present.
- The October 23 edition of SmackDown will feature Blake Monroe vs Giulia in a Street Fight, WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley defending against B-Fab and Michin, and WWE Tag Team Champions The MFTs (Tama Tonga & Talla Tonga) facing BAKUSAI (Shinsuke Nakamura & Kyoki) in a non-title match. Chelsea Green's WWE Women's Championship defense against Nikki Bella was also scheduled for October 30.
- Cody Rhodes called Randy Orton to the ring and sat in a chair while waiting for him to appear. Baron Corbin interrupted instead, accusing Rhodes of repeatedly complaining about being betrayed and focusing too much on maintaining the fans' approval. Corbin said that he possessed the killer instinct Cody lacked and would use him to advance his own career. When Corbin attempted to throw a punch, Rhodes countered and knocked him outside before calling for a referee to start a match.
- Cody Rhodes defeated Baron Corbin by disqualification after Randy Orton interfered in the match. Corbin scored a near fall with Deep Six before Rhodes recovered and connected with a Disaster Kick. Orton then pulled Rhodes out of the ring and attacked him, forcing the referee to end the contest. The fight continued at ringside, with Orton eventually attempting his punt kick. Cody avoided the attack and hit a Cody Cutter before preparing to punt Orton himself. Corbin stopped him but was subsequently taken down with another Cody Cutter. Orton taunted Rhodes from the ramp, telling him he would not follow through with the attack. Cody responded by delivering a punt kick to Corbin, leaving Orton watching from the entrance ramp as the show ended.
