Unfortunately, it sounds like plans to bring Brock Lesnar back for SummerSlam next month have fallen apart. According to Andrew Zarian on the Mat Men Pro Wrestling podcast, WWE couldn't work out the right create plan for The Beast, while the two sides may have also disagreed over the former Universal Champion working non-televised live events.
"They wanted Brock. For whatever reason, the plan didn’t work out. I believe it was creative-wise, it just wasn’t fitting," he explains. "Financially, they want Brock to commit to live shows." It sounds like Lesnar will eventually return to WWE, but for now, the two sides are at an impasse and with the August PPV fast approaching, there's clearly not enough time to get it all worked out.
Stranger things have happened, though, and we could quite easily end up being surprised!
Interestingly, Paul Heyman seems to be having fun teasing fans on social media as the Heyman Hustle Facebook page has been updated with an image of him watching a down Roman Reigns being victimised by his client.
As for John Cena, it's been revealed today that he's signed up for Matthew Vaughn's (The King's Man) new movie. That starts shooting in August in Europe, so depending on when he's needed, his planned role at SummerSlam could be in serious jeopardy.
Between COVID-19 protocols, insurance, and the shooting schedule, Cena could find he's unable to battle Reigns as planned and, if nothing else, this pretty much confirms his return will be a brief one. Insurance issues have prevented Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson from stepping back into the squared circle, especially after a WrestleMania injury caused problems for Hercules a few years ago.
Nothing is set in stone yet, so keep checking back here for updates.
