It looked like WWE had big plans for Bray Wyatt when he returned to the company last year, and when we last saw the former Fiend, the stage was being set for the 2x Universal Champion to face Bobby Lashley at WrestleMania.
Unfortunately, the match was scrapped with no explanation and we haven't seen Wyatt since.
There have been rumblings online him facing some sort of mysterious health condition, but a new report from Fightful Select says Wyatt is now getting "closer" to being cleared and returning to WWE. Ideas are being discussed for September, though nothing is set in stone and won't be until he's 100% cleared.
Interestingly, it's pointed out that both Wyatt and WWE are taking extra precautions "to make sure that his long-term health is accounted for."
In a subsequent update, the site confirms whatever illness Wyatt dealt with was both "career and life-threatening," suggesting it's a major issue and one serious enough to explain why Bray hasn't been seen in a WWE ring since March.
There's been heaps of speculation Vince McMahon's return as WWE Chairman has played a role in Bray being taken off television (he was the one who released him). It's clear now, however, that's not the case.
Whatever is happening, we obviously wish Bray a speedy recovery. Since his absence, someone who was expected to be a key part of his ongoing storyline, Alexa Bliss, has announced a pregnancy, meaning whatever plans were originally in place for them both are guaranteed to ultimately change.
When Wyatt does return, here's hoping WWE wastes no time putting together his new faction, even if Bliss isn't part of it. While never confirmed, it's widely believed Bo Dallas was Uncle Howdy, and it's surprising the company hasn't utilised him more since Bray's forced leave of absence.
As always, be sure to stay tuned for updates as we have them.
