On Sunday, Bray Wyatt captured his first WWE World Heavyweight Championship inside the Elimination Chamber after pinning both John Cena and AJ Styles clean. It was a huge moment for the Eater of Worlds, and while it's possible his title run will only last until his long rumoured WrestleMania match against Randy Orton, fans were still happy to see Wyatt finally get his hands on the most prestigious title in WWE.
ESPN caught up with Wyatt just moments after his big win, and he was understandably still in shock after becoming the first wrestler in his family (his brother Bo Dallas performs on RAW and is a former NXT Champion) to win the title. "To be honest with you," he said, "I don't think I've come to grips with this yet. This is something that cements my legacy. This is something that I've accomplished - but I want to accomplish more. WrestleMania is right here."
"This pretty much tells me I'm in the main event at WrestleMania," he added, referring to the title. "That's pretty cool."
It is indeed, and while it's unclear whether or not he will headline the event (many believe that spot will go to Brock Lesnar and Goldberg's planned bout for the Universal Championship), a match like this should help Wyatt a lot, especially after he didn't even get one at last year's WrestleMania in Dallas. However, Wyatt sees this as a chance to now prove his doubter wrong.
"To me it was an up-yours to the authority, because when I walked into this, I don't think anyone ever looked at me and said, 'One day you're going to be WWE champion.' I've seen so many come and go over the years, and so many that look the part and thought they were something special and they just weren't. And someone like me, I had to cut my teeth for years just to be recognized. No one looked at my direction. I had to grab them by the throat and make them look me in the eyes and say, 'Look at me.' This is a huge accomplishment for me, because no one else expected it but I always did."
Interestingly, Wyatt's father and Uncle and Orton's father were all on the first WrestleMania card back in 1985, so while their match looks set to be the culmination of a storyline which has been playing out for months now, there's a lot of history behind this one.
