Heading into WrestleMania, it's fair to say we all believed Cody Rhodes would dethrone Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Unfortunately, interference from Solo Sikoa meant the American Nightmare was unable to get the job done.
WWE has used that opportunity to extend The Bloodline drama, while Rhodes has spent the past several months feuding with Brock Lesnar.
All signs point to Reigns vs. Rhodes II taking place at next year's WrestleMania and, during an interview with My Mom's Basement, Rhodes revealed why he's decided against watching the match back (despite it arguably being the biggest bout of his career).
"If someone asked me specifically to watch it back, I will," he explains. "I'll watch it back. Or if I blew something. Like if I knew something stunk. Then I'll watch it back to see what you were thinking. What were you doing? What happened here?"
But if you're feeling it...in that moment...I learned from Shawn Michaels, you really don't need to watch it back. You don't really need to. It was magic. When it's a home run, there's no conversation. We need to have like that was a home run."
"I didn't want to watch it back, not because of how it ended, but also because my family was in the front row and I don't know if I can take looking at their faces. They were filming them as much as they were filming me," Rhodes continues. "I don't know if I want to see my mom go through that, especially with how excited she was to be there. I haven't watched it back."
It's easy enough to understand where Rhodes is coming from, especially as it was an emotional night for the Royal Rumble winner. Even if he's confident there's a chance he could win the title next year, you never know what will happen in pro wrestling, and it won't make this loss sting any less.
Do you think the American Nightmare will eventually defeat the Tribal Chief?
