While WWE hasn't made it 100% official, several reliable outlets have reported that WWE has released Cain Valasquez in cost-cutting measures which come as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, his in-ring future is in doubt, though we have heard that he's intent on continuing his wrestling career down the line.
Another former UFC star who has contemplated making the leap from the octagon to the squared circle is Daniel Cormier, and during a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, he weighed in on what's happened to Valasquez.
"It makes me sad for Cain," the former UFC Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight Champion said. "I know how much he enjoys wrestling. I know that he’s going to land on his feet. There is no person in the world I am more confident that will come out of whatever situation in a positive light than Cain Velasquez."
Asked if he has now changed his mind about potentially working with WWE, Cormier said that it's hard to say as companies are having to go to unique lengths to combat COVID-19. "So to say that it would make you only want to do a one-off as opposed to a contract? I think that’s a little much. Everybody’s doing exactly what they’re doing because of the pandemic," he noted.
For now, something tells us WWE won't be signing anyone to big money contracts...
