Ahead of last night's Backlash PPV, both Randy Orton and Edge attempted to temper expectations for their match (which WWE had decided to dub the "Greatest Wrestling Match Ever"). Ultimately, it didn't live up to the title, but it was still pretty damn good, and WWE gave itself an out by having The Viper win via low blow, thereby meaning he ruined what could have been the "Greatest Wrestling Match Ever."
Unfortunately, we'll be waiting a while for the rematch because it's been widely reported that Edge was injured at some point during the bout. According to the Wrestling Observer Live team, he suffered a torn triceps, news which WWE has tried to keep quiet as the PPV was actually taped last week.
With an injury like this, it's common for a wrestler to be out of action for at least four months, and possible as much as eight if it's a particularly bad injury. This would mean he's back in time for Survivor Series at the soonest and the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania at the latest, but it closes the door on WWE's plans to have Edge and Orton meet again at SummerSlam for their deciding match.
This comes at a bad time for WWE as Roman Reigns, Becky Lynch, and Bray Wyatt are all at home for various reasons at the moment.
