As we reported yesterday, WWE has been deemed an "essential business," so that means they're able to continue operating despite us being in the midst of a global pandemic. The company plans to continue taping live shows in the weeks to come, something which has generated quite a bit of mainstream media attention (of the negative variety).
Now, Stephanie Coueignoux from Central Florida's My 13 News is reporting that there were attempts made by Orange County officials to shut down the WWE shows at the Performance Center due to them not being in compliance with the Executive Order issued by the state.
It's said that deputies advised WWE in March and April that "they were not in compliance w/Executive Order and advised them they would have to close down." However, the company used their political influence by getting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to step in, and WWE was deemed an "essential business" as a result.
Believe it or not, it's thought that DeSantis actually consulted with President Donald Trump, a close friend of both Vince and Linda McMahon. On the same day WWE was named an essential business, Linda announced that her SuperPac will be spending $18.5 million to help get him re-elected.
You can't make this stuff up, eh?
