Hurricane Helms was among those released by WWE when they started cutting costs during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the former producer didn't shy away from sharing his thoughts on some of the company's current storylines during a recent interview with Sportskeeda UnSKripted.
He specifically focused on the feud between Jeff Hardy and Sheamus on SmackDown which has included a DUI hit and run, drug tests, and a cup of urine to the face. Helms, who is a friend of both Matt and Jeff Hardy, made it clear that it's not a storyline he can get on board with.
"I’m not a fan of it, I mean, I don’t think if you can really hurt Jeff at this point," he explains. "Jeff is kind of untouchable. Jeff is always going to be Jeff Hardy, and I think fans are always going to love him. The storyline doesn’t really do a lot for me though I don’t think it’s going to bring in any new fans."
"If you don’t know about Jeff and any of the problems Jeff has had in the past, like if you were a new fan and you don’t know about it, a storyline like this kind of shines the flashlight on it and I don’t really see the purpose of that. So, not crazy about it, but I love Jeff Hardy, so I got to support him."
It's a fair point, and if this storyline is the best WWE can do in terms of edgy content, it definitely leaves a lot to be desired. Still, it's got fans talking, and that no doubt means a lot to the company right now.
