The first-ever Smackdown Tag Team Champion has finally spoken.
This past week, WWE shocked the wrestling community by releasing numerous talents and producers, one of which was Heath Slater.
The 36-year-old got his start as one of the competitors in the reality-based competition NXT; While Slater didn’t win the competition, nothing would compare to his explosive debut on WWE television as Slater was apart of an unforgettable angle that saw the NXT rookies band together and destroy everything in sight on RAW.
While the whole Nexus angle didn’t pan out perfectly, Slater would eventually transition into another faction known as The Corre and when that stable disbanded, the former Smackdown star was mostly used as a comedy character throughout his run within the promotion.
By 2020, Slater wasn’t used much on television, with his last match being against Daniel Bryan in February on the blue brand. Despite being released from the company, the West Virginia native remained positive in his statement, thanking WWE for allowing him to live out a lifelong dream. Slater does admit that he lost his passion for professional wrestling a bit towards the end of his WWE career; however, with a new chapter set to start soon, the former WWE star will be able to spread his wings throughout the independent scene.
