Remember Kurrgan?
He was a 90’s WWE act that first came in as a member of The Truth Commission. When that group fizzled out, Kurrgan became a part of The Oddities with Giant Silva, Golga, Violent J, Shaggy 2 Dope, Luna Vachon, and George Steele. The group was a notable lower card act, but a short-lived one since they disbanded only a year after they came together.
Krugan didn’t last much longer when The Oddities disbanded in 1999. He was eventually released in November of that very year. Since then, the former WWE star had been taking acting gigs, but he wrestled here and there until 2011. He had a solid stint in CMLL as Gigiante Kurrgan and worked various promotions in the Canadian scene.
The 55-year-old recently appeared on the Stories with Bradshaw & Brisco with JBL and Gerald Brisco and addressed the possibility of returning to the ring. The former WWE star is quite happy with his quiet life and has no interest in coming back.
"I don't think I want to be wrestling anymore. People ask me, 'You should go back to wrestling.' No, that's alright," he said.
Brisco asked how Kurrgan would respond if he got a call from WWE or any other promotion and he maintained his stance, though he’s not against doing an appearance every now and then, "A couple times, I got a call, just to do an appearance. I'll show up, do autographs, maybe do a chokeslam and that's it. I don't have to put my wrestling boots on."
The guy is 55, so it makes sense that he’s not interested in returning to wrestling in any capacity. Kurrgan never states where he’s gotten calls from. Perhaps he’s been asked to work a Rumble or two during the Vince era? Maybe we’ll find out someday. Though Kurrgan wasn’t a big star like The Undertaker or Bret Hart, there are fans out there who have fond memories of him and The Oddities. Kurrgan did a, “Where are they now?” interview with WWE and it shed some light on why Vince McMahon stopped pushing him as a singles star.
“My wife loves to dance,” Maillet explained. “She asked me, so I had to dance. Soon, I realized I was one of the only guys on the dance floor. All of the other wrestlers are sitting around looking at me like, ‘What the hell is going on?’ ”
Vince McMahon had the same mindset as the former WWE CEO just couldn’t take Kurrgan seriously once he saw him dancing, “Apparently, Mr. McMahon saw me dancing and couldn’t get it out of his mind,” Maillet said. “I think that’s where the new twist on The Oddities came from.”
