Eric Young was among the WWE Superstars released by the company near the beginning of the pandemic, and he had plenty to say during a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet. Asked about what went wrong with Sanity when they were called up from NXT, he explained that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon quickly soured on the faction.
"We got called up per his (Vince McMahon’s) request," Young explains. "He asked for us to come. A bunch of stuff happened. It was a lot of victim of circumstance and we ended up in a very weird spot. They sent those two guys down and it was his request for me to move over to RAW and he was going to figure something out for me because at that point, he still liked me. Then somewhere along the line, he didn’t like me and didn’t care for my work and I was lost in obscurity for about a year and a half."
Young then went on to reveal that before he was released by WWE, there were plans in place for him to be moved back to NXT (which is what happened to two of the other members of Sanity).
"I can tell you now Scott D’Amore was the second person I heard from when the news came out," he said, reflecting on his release. "This is going to sound weird, but Triple H was the very first. He was unaware that it was happening. He’s in a different position in the company now. Me and him have always had a very good relationship. The original plan after WrestleMania was for me to go back to NXT. We had been talking a lot about ideas and what might happen."
Clearly, Vince McMahon is still the one who makes these decisions, though it is surprising that he didn't consult Triple H about a talent he obviously had plans for. Now, Young is once again part of IMPACT.
