Lacey Evans was released by WWE earlier this year, though fans weren't exactly shocked. Since being called up to the main roster with her Southern Belle gimmick, nothing seemed to click for the now-former WWE Superstar, including a bizarre run as a heel war veteran.
Largely used in squash matches during her final months in the company, Evans' divisive social media posts about depression and autism are also believed to have factored into why she wasn't pushed.
In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Evans revealed that, after Vince McMahon said he was fine with her taking time off to have a baby, she found herself thrown into that weird storyline with Charlotte Flair and her father, WWE Hall of Famer, Ric Flair.
Despite that, she has nothing bad to say about the Chairman but simultaneously made it clear she's done with pro wrestling.
"Do you want me to lie? No, there's not [a desire to go back]. You know, some people, they wake up and they put on six-inch stilettos and 10 pounds of makeup and their extensions and they go walk the red carpet and they feel amazing. I'm not those people. And it was very difficult for me, right? To kind of put on that front. And because WWE does a lot of good stuff for a lot of people, but I just felt like more could be done for my why, right?"
"So for my passions and mental health and addiction, and life struggles and PTSD and all the sh*t that people have to deal with every day. It's like, why the f*ck am I on a red carpet right now? Like I'm looking out in the crowd and I see people that are f*cking hurting and they're taking photos of my shoes. I'm not gonna lie I miss some of the people, right? Because it is a struggle, and we do kind of become a family at some point. But I don't I want to I want to help I want to do more. I want to fight different battles that aren't in the ring."
Elsewhere in the conversation, Evans was asked about Sgt. Slaughter previously sharing his unhappiness with her using what he felt was a copy of his gimmick and, more importantly, his old finishing move, the Cobra Clutch.
"I think they're frickin’ weak. No disrespect to like Hall of Famers in WWE that have paved the way, he can kiss my ass and his daughter can too, so record that. Have a good day. I don't know where the hell that came from. They know the game. You go to work. You get told this is what you're doing. A lot of people don't know what was said and what was done and how they discussed it with him and they talked to him and that is none of my damn concern. In WWE when you're a performer, you're like, down here.
"You tell me what the f*ck you need, you tell me what time the bell rings, and then and I'll do whatever because I got a family to feed, a husband a love, and I say that with conviction because I made sure I was in shape. I made sure I could do the flippy flops, the drop downs, I made sure to create the character they told me, you know, you're gonna go out, you're gonna do the Cobra clutch and he's gonna come in and help, and then whatever happened, happened. Next thing you know he's not out here, I'm still doing the Cobra clutch, but don't get mad at me because I'm doing my job."
Evans clearly isn't one for mincing her words and it's apparent she's not bothered about who she upsets. What she'll do from here moving forward remains to be seen, but like many female wrestlers who have left that world, she has a big enough social media following to mean there are plenty of options that don't involve a ring.
As always, we'll keep you updated if and when Evans chooses to return to the squared circle!
