Former WWE Superstar Raven Believes That Heavily Scripted Promos Are Very Bad For The Business

It's no secret that many current wrestlers are told exactly what to say when they cut a promo or address a live crowd, and it's something ECW legend Raven believes is killing the business. More past the jump...

Former WWE/ECW/WCW/TNA star Raven, a.k.a. Scott Levy, has always been known as one of the best minds in wrestling, and has a tremendous grasp of the psychology of the game. Because of this, both fans and insiders alike tend to be very interested in what he has to say about the current state of the wrestling business.

In recent years, it's become very apparent that many wrestlers - particularly some of the top WWE talent - are simply reading off promos that have been written for them instead of addressing the audience more naturally, and staying true to what their characters would actually say. It's something a lot of people believe is doing harm to the business as a whole, and Raven definitely agrees.

Here's what he has to say on the matter during an interview with ESPN:

“I think it’s bad for the business. Now they write promos for people. In the old days, you got bullet points. They said, ‘Here are the points you gotta hit, so do it in your character.’ If you didn’t know how to be a character or how to be a star, you didn’t get over. Now they write for everybody, which is good for the lower-tier guys who can’t write, who aren’t creative enough yet or don’t have enough psychology yet. But for guys who have potential star power, you’re really killing it, because [Steve] Austin would’ve never came alive if they would’ve been writing his character for him. If they told him to just stay with these promos. It’s a whole different world now.”

What do you make of Raven's comments? Do you think current stars should be allowed to improvise more? Sound off below.
