When Jinder Mahal was still WWE Champion, WWE spent weeks teasing a match between him and Universal Champion Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series. It was actually one of the first matches announced for the annual event and Mahal talked in detail about adding muscle for the main event which was expected to also include John Cena as the special guest referee.
Well, somewhere along the line, Vince McMahon changed his mind and AJ Styles ended up winning the WWE Championship during a SmackDown Live taping in Manchester, England.
Mahal ended up not even being part of Survivor Series and while he'll face Styles at Clash of Champions, it very much looks like his push is over. So, when did he find out about the change?
"I found the day of [Smackdown], when we got to Manchester. To be honest, I was a little disappointed, I was looking forward to that match. But I know that match is going to happen sometime in the future, and it is up to me to make sure that it happens. And I’m going to make sure that it happens. Either; as I said earlier, there are two ways you can take it. You can either say you’re going to make it happen, or write and do whatever it takes to get there, or you can pour out, boohoo, and blame someone else. But what is meant to be, was meant to be, it will be. And I’m going to make sure that it becomes."
Lesnar's contract ends after WrestleMania 34, so chances are the match won't happen unless he resigns and WWE decides to once again put the spotlight on Mahal. Either way, it must have been upsetting to learn that he'd no longer be involved in one of the biggest matches of the year and was seemingly the beginning of the end of his singles push as WWE looked to make a new Indian star!
