On Monday, Jeff Hardy confirmed in an interview with BT Sport that he has signed a new contract with WWE. He and Matt signed deals with the company at the same time in 2017, but Jeff's injuries meant he had time added to that (hence why Matt was able to leave the company and head to All Elite Wrestling instead).
It was widely though that Jeff might join Matt in AEW, and Dave Meltzer has now explained on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio where things stand with the Charismatic Enigma in WWE.
"Yeah, so that pretty much...the Hardy Boyz as a tag team, I don’t want to say never, but we’re probably talking years," he noted. "I don’t know if it’s a three or five-year deal, but generally WWE contracts these days are five-year deals. So that’s a long long time. He’s not going...his contract was coming due in a couple of months."
"The Hardy Boyz contracts started on the same day and they were supposed to end on the same day, but what happened was that they tacked so much time for Jeff’s injuries on that there was just a long gap between the ending of both men’s contract," Meltzer continued. "There was actually time tacked on to Matt’s too, but Jeff was obviously injured a lot more in the last couple of years so he had more time tacked on."
If Jeff was offered a big money deal, it's understandable why he chose to sign with WWE again, and it now seems likely that he and Matt will end up finishing their respective careers in different companies.
