When the United States started initiating lockdowns in mid-March, WWE was forced to move its shows to the empty WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. Things haven't quite been the same since, but with restrictions slowly being lifted, it's looking like fans could soon welcome fans back to the likes of RAW, SmackDown, and NXT.
Now, just days after we heard that Vince McMahon wants a crowd in attendance for SummerSlam, the WrestleVotes Twitter account has elaborated on what WWE's plans could be moving forward.
"I’ve asked a source for an update on live events returning. Status quo as of now," they note. "The plan remains to return to live audiences when permitted, which then depends on each state. Still a tricky situation. I wouldn’t hold my breathe for anything prior to July."
That makes sense, especially as it is still early days. States which have lifted lockdown restrictions too soon have seen a surge of COVID-19 cases, and that's not something WWE will want to be responsible for (as it would be a PR disaster). Florida's Governor has talked about sporting events running at 25% capacity, but whether that's something WWE would be happy with is hard to say.
We'll keep you guys updated!
