Over the past week or two, we've been hearing a lot about plans for a WWE Draft. Now, though, Dave Meltzer has clarified what's going on in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. He reports that there would be two shows covering the draft across both RAW and SmackDown (leaving NXT its own separate entity, thankfully).
While the original plan was for the Draft to take place in October, plans reportedly changed when WWE realised that they need to something drastic in order to improve their show's declining ratings.
As a result, there's been talk of it being moved to August to coincide with SummerSlam. However, with a second PPV taking place just one week after that, the Draft was moved to September by WWE officials. Now, though, it's back to October...at least for the time being.
The hope is that the introduction of RAW Underground and a few other measures the company is taking will increase interest in WWE programming again and that the Draft can be saved for when the shows have a greater level of competition in the fall. Typically, WWE Draft shows do draw a much bigger number than usual, but the concept has grown stale in recent years.
