There has been speculation for years now that the WWE Network will start airing content from independent wrestling promotions, and while the streaming service didn't add differently priced tiers as expected earlier this year, it is finally happening according to Sports Illustrated.
WWE officials have told the site that shows from EVOLVE, wXw, PROGRESS, and Insane Championship Wrestling will arrive on the WWE Network as soon as this Saturday (that's two days from now).
We can reportedly expect "Best Of" compilations, showcasing WWE Champion Drew McIntyre and NXT Champion Keith Lee's time in EVOLVE. On Saturday, Insane Championship Wrestling’s Shug’s Hoose Party 5: Night 2 from 2018, wXw Femme Fatales 2019, wXw AMBITION 11 from 2019, and PROGRESS Wrestling’s Chapter 92 from 2019 will all also be released.
More content is reportedly coming in future and, as you might expect, the reason for these specific shows being added is because they highlight a number of WWE and NXT Superstars. This will definitely appeal to a lot of wrestling fans, but will it increase WWE Network subscriptions?
That remains to be seen, but WWE clearly didn't feel this content justified charging subscribers more to access it on the aforementioned scrapped tier system.
What do you guys make of this news?
