It seems WWE Hall of Famer Jerry "The King" Lawler has once again been replaced as part of the RAW commentary team. According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Samoa Joe is supposed to be a permanent replacement for Lawler, something many fans will undoubtedly be on board with.
What we don't know is what this means for Joe's in-ring career; he's been injured again and again recently, and seeing as some of those were concussion-related, it's possible that WWE is looking to have him transition into a different role. However, Meltzer's report does state that Joe could be booked in angles which see him serve as commentator and wrestler.
Initially, it was believed that Joe was just filling in for Lawler due to concerns about the WWE Hall of Famer contracting COVID-19 (despite him not believing that it's a real thing). Time will tell whether he's brought back when all is said and done, but Joe isn't cleared from his latest concussion, so he could be on the commentary team for the foreseeable.
As for Lawler, he remains a controversial figure, and recently came under fire on RAW for what were perceived to be racist comments aimed at Akira Tozawa.
