When fans get behind a wrestler, the results can be spectacular. This year's #WeWantCody movement proves that and, back in 2019, it was Kofi Kingston's turn on the Road to WrestleMania.
The WWE veteran had never won the WWE Championship and, following an impressive Elimination Chamber showing (which only happened because Mustafa Ali was injured), "KofiMania" was soon running wild.
At WrestleMania 35, that culminated with The New Day member defeating Daniel Bryan, winning the WWE title for the first time in his career...the less said about how that reign ended, the better.
In a recent interview, Kingston reflected on the movement and what it meant to him.
"I purposely omitted Kofi Mania out to try and be humble. It was a very real story, you know, because the 11 year journey that I had to take to have a World Championship title match, you know what I'm saying? It was a legit journey and everybody was with me on that journey there's a lot of people that have been impacted by that moment, even to this day it's over five years right, like over five years ago I still get messages on social media from people talking about how much that moment meant to them."
"I think it's really cool man, I think that you know, as far as representation is concerned, I've always said that it's one thing to say that anything is possible but it's another thing entirely to see something happen and know that it's possible because it happened. So for me, to be the first African born WWE Champion, you know there's a lot of people that never thought that they would see an African born champion on TV so seeing videos and hearing people's stories about like them watching their kids watch that Kofi Mania moment and just see their eyes light up, it's so humbling."
Kingston winning the WWE Championship is an iconic WrestleMania moment and a well-deserved achievement for the multi-time Tag Team Champion.
Bryan proved to be the perfect person to drop the title to Kingston as he was in the midst of a great heel run at the time and had previously been catapulted to the main event of WrestleMania when fans backed him and the "Yes Movement."
The New Day member didn't headline the Show of Shows - that honour went to Becky Lynch vs. Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair - but the match remains a true great in the eyes of pro wrestling fans.
