On December 14, 2023, WWE Superstar Liv Morgan was arrested and charged with possession of synthetic cannabinoids and possession of cannabis.
The case never went anywhere and was ultimately dropped but it received mainstream media attention at the time and there were concerns it could lead to the current Women's World Champion being fired by WWE (wrestlers have been released for less over the years).
Talking on Logan Paul's IMPAULSIVE podcast, Morgan reflected on the arrest and admitted she was concerned about her career being derailed.
"As the world knows, I did have a run-in with the law. It is all cleared up now. I am not guilty. There was no guilt found, it was dropped," she started. "Let me take a moment, I cannot make light of the situation, you know, I was in a situation where there were some things in my car that I was unaware of. And one of those things was a felony."
"So I got arrested, and bailed out, and called work right away. My jail call was work. I called our head of talent relations at the time, Dan [Ventrelle]. I explained exactly what happened, and he was like, 'Alright, we’ll figure this out, stay hush, go to work tomorrow, don’t tell anyone, do your thing."
"I go to work to do my rehab and I’m just like so guilty in that moment, I’m feeling so shameful, I’m so upset, I really don’t want work to be mad at me," Morgan continued. "I do a lot of community work within WWE, and I’m like, 'Man, I’ve just ruined everything on something that was...my fault, but like, not my fault.' But I have to take responsibility, of course, it’s my car, I’m gonna take full responsibility for it."
"I showed up to work that day, but I was so guilty, and I saw you and just had a normal conversation. You would have never known. And then I think it was SmackDown, this was a Thursday I got arrested, the next day was Friday - go to the Performance Center, saw you, then the news broke that night. 8 o’clock on the dot, 'Liv Morgan Arrested.' It was faster than I thought," she admitted.
Helping matters was the fact that Morgan was injured at the time and was not being used on WWE TV. As a result, there was time for the whole thing to blow over and, as she explains, the whole thing was a misunderstanding. She also joked that, if nothing else, her mugshot was a good one.
Reiterating that she's remaining in WWE for the foreseeable future, Morgan noted, "I just signed a new five-year deal, so my five-year plan is WWE. That’s my five-year plan."
