Owen Hart is considered one of the greatest wrestlers of all-time, but he's never been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. At the Over the Edge PPV in May 1999, he died after falling from a harness which was meat to lower him to the ring. His wife, Martha, spent years embroiled in legal battles with WWE and is now doing the rounds to promote Vice's Dark Side of the Ring episode focusing on his tragic death.
CBS Sports caught up with Martha before it airs, and she talked about how WWE handled the situation at the time.
"When Owen died, they scooped him out like a piece of garbage and they paraded wrestlers out to wrestle in a ring that had Owen’s blood, where the boards were broken from Owen’s fall and where the guys could feel the dip in the ring from where he fell," she said, painting a grim picture. "Just that disrespect and lack of respect for a human life that had just been lost."
Asked if she believes her late husband should be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame (something fans have been crying our for for years now, Martha explained why it's something she'll never let happen.
"Their Hall of Fame? They don’t even have a Hallway of Fame. It doesn’t exist. There’s nothing. It’s a fake entity. There’s nothing real or tangible. It’s just an event they have to make money. They put it on TV and have a celebration, and it’s just so ridiculous. I would never even entertain it. It’s garbage."
It's not remotely hard to see why Martha feels this way, and we highly recommend checking out her recent conversation with Chris Jericho on Talk Is Jericho for additional context about her relationship with Owen.
