It seems WWE isn't finished cutting talent. Despite dropping a number of big names last night (along with NXT Superstars and over 60 employees in WWE Headquarters a few weeks ago), Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Pro Wrestling podcast claims more "cost-cutting" measures are expected to be enacted soon.
That means more releases, though time will tell whether we'll say goodbye to more familiar faces from RAW or SmackDown. There have been rumours all week about cuts being made to NXT UK, and seeing as that fairly unsuccessful WWE Network show has been cut off at the knees by COVID-19, it wouldn't be at all surprising to see WWE pull the plug on the brand by releasing...well, everyone.
ITV's World of Sport is no longer a threat to WWE, and that's the only reason NXT UK was launched.
What's the deal with all these cuts when the sports entertainment giant has been making record profits? Online speculation points to Vince McMahon having plans to sell the company. What that would mean for WWE is hard to say, but the WWE Network has already been offloaded to Peacock, so it's certainly possible. However, it's hard to imagine the Chairman just wanting to end his legacy by passing the reigns to a non-McMahon before he dies.
