Last night, we learned that Shane McMahon has been "let go" by his father, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, following Saturday's Royal Rumble PPV. Now, PWTorch.com's Wade Keller has elaborated on the situation, confirming there have been issues between father and son for a while.
Apparently, what happened over the weekend was indeed the straw that broke the camel's back. This supposedly marked the third year Shane has been brought in to help produce the Men's Royal Rumble match despite the fact Keller says his creative ideas are frequently mocked behind his back. Shane, however, took things to another level on Saturday by focusing too much on himself.
It's also said the WWE Chairman's son pulled the "McMahon card" and overruled other producers. That led to heated arguments, particularly with those who were just looking to do what Vince had told them to. Ultimately, it sounds like Shane went way overboard looking to protect himself, choosing who he would be in the ring with (which explains him eliminating his one-time WrestleMania opponent Kevin Owens and the fact he held his own against the likes of Riddle and Otis).
Keller notes that Shane was willing to put Brock Lesnar over, but there were clashes between him and Vince when it came to creative plans for the younger McMahon on RAW and at Elimination Chamber. Pushback from Shane ultimately led to everything being cancelled and him being "let go." It's unclear right now whether he was officially released or if this was an informal split.
Either way, it appears we may not see Shane back in WWE for a very long time given this split. As a result, there's a good chance his final match could have been Saturday's divisive Royal Rumble!
Needless to say. we wish Shane the best with his future endeavours.
