A lot has changed in WWE in recent years and, thankfully, that includes the way the company's female Superstars are booked and treated. No longer "Divas," Bra and Panties matches and the like are a thing of the past, with the likes of Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks headlining WWE shows on a regular basis.
Things were a little different in 2011, though.
That was when Paige signed with WWE and ended up competing for FCW (Florida Championship Wrestling), the company's predecessor to NXT. The women who were part of that "brand" were booked the same way as those on the main roster, and for the former champion, that was simply unacceptable.
"When I first got there, I was like, ‘I have to do a bikini contest? Like what the f*** is that?’" she says on Renee Paquette’s Oral Sessions podcast. "I was like, ‘What?’ and I just remember being so mad about it one day because we had to find a cover and then unveil ourselves in the ring to, like, 12 people in the crowd, and then there was literally mostly children there, and I was like, ‘This is horrifying...this isn’t what I signed up for.’"
Paige's work in NXT and subsequent move to the main roster transformed WWE's women's division, and she's a huge part of what would ultimately become known as the Women's Revolution.
While she's not currently on WWE TV, Paige appears to be very happy and healthy right now:
