WWE Champion Bobby Lashley has made no secret of the fact that he wants to face Brock Lesnar given their shared MMA and wrestling backgrounds, and it has become something of a dream match for fans. Unfortunately, they've yet to cross paths in the squared circle, and it doesn't exactly help that The Beast is currently M.I.A.
The last time he competed was at last year's WrestleMania in the empty WWE Performance Center. There, Lesnar lost the WWE title to Drew McIntyre, and while there were rumblings he might be back for SummerSlam, there were countless denials that a match with Lashley was planned.
We know Lesnar won't be back for this year's SummerSlam either, and WWE is instead planning to move forward with a bout between the All Mighty and WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer shed some light on why the match still hasn't happened. Apparently, "the feeling was that Lesnar isn’t coming back for a number of shows right now, so he’d have to lose."
With WWE hoping to pit Lesnar against Roman Reigns down the line, the thought process in the company is that they wouldn't want to bring The Beast back to lose or be part of a non-finish as it would weaken him ahead of a clash with the Head of the Table at a future WrestleMania or major PPV.
With any luck, we'll hopefully see this match become a realty somewhere down the line, but it doesn't sound like a major priority for WWE right now at least.
