Roman Reigns Reflects On Being Booed Out Of The Building On RAW After Retiring The Undertaker At MANIA
In a new interview, former WWE Champ Roman Reigns talks about the deafening chorus of boos he was greeted with the night after he defeated - and retired - The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33. More past the jump.
Roman Reigns has received his share of negative crowd reactions over the years, but nothing tops the deafening chorus of boos he was greeted with on the post-WrestleMania 33 edition of RAW.
Despite being a "face", The Big Dog simply never connected with fans as a heroic character (there are various reasons why but we won't get into them here), but retiring a beloved icon like The Undertaker took things to a whole new level.
Reigns has commented on this previously, but while appearing as a guest on the Off The Board podcast he went into a lot more detail:
"That [promo] was probably the most gratifying thing I’ve... I enjoyed that segment more than any other segment and I had just wrestled and beaten the Undertaker the night before. But it was so bittersweet to just be able to have full control. I just felt like everybody was on a string at that point and I was just pulling them. There’s a little thing where you can see I pretty much mouth it, 'I got em in the palm of my hand.' I had thousands of people doing exactly what I wanted them to do and it’s like master plan and it’s unfolding perfectly in front of your eyes."
Well Roman, I'm sure you could have made that crowd do exactly what you wanted... except cheer for you!
In all fainess, this seems to be Reigns' default response when questioned about the negative response he typically receives, because WWE seems determined to convince us that their top face being routinely and unmercifully booed is all part of the plan.
